Des Headland Training Session

Des Headland Training Session

13 February 2025

Some of our students kicked off the year with an exciting opportunity to take part in a private training session with former AFL stars Des Headland and Michael Johnson.

The session started with a lap of the oval to warm up, followed by 30x 100 meter sprints. The training then progressed to lane work, practicing handballing, groundballs and kicking. The next drill was pressure work with 2 defenders and 2 attackers, with the attackers having to work the ball past the defenders. The last drill of the session was to focus on kicking. Everyone went in pairs to work the football to the opposite end, using short and sharp kicks and being front and center to receive the handpass.

Des kindly donated this private session as a 2024 MADALAH Ball auction item. MADALAH staff, students and alumni were fortunate enough to participate and take part in this opportunity. We would like to thank Rosli Wheelock, Steve O’Dwyer and Britt O’Dwyer for allowing some of our students to join in.
