MADALAH Mentors learn about Mental Health and Well-being

February 3, 2021

The MADALAH team recently welcomed our new and returning mentors by providing them with Professional Development Training in Mental Health Awareness, facilitated by our good friends at Spartan First. The purpose of this training was to equip our mentors with the appropriate skills to enable them to support our students safely and effectively. It was so exciting to see our new and returning mentors all together to prepare for what is shaping up to be MADALAH’s biggest year to date!

With what is the largest group of mentors we have ever had, we now have the opportunity to have mentors attend all events, as well as hold mentoring sessions with all students to help build strong relationships . In order to build those relationships, our mentors must be appropriately trained in all areas of support and Mental Health Awareness was a very important topic for them to gain a comprehensive understanding of.

After engaging in a number of discussions around the topic, we went through the many events MADALAH has planned for 2021 and how this growing group of mentors will be able to get involved. It was no surprise that this incredible group of young Indigenous leaders put their hands up for whatever they could and shared the same enthusiasm as the MADALAH team for the year ahead.

Three days later we then went on to facilitate this same session with our new mentors alongside the staff group in Broome. We were excited to welcome 4 new local mentors to the team who will facilitate mentoring sessions at St Mary’s College in Broome, where we are kickstarting our partnership and welcoming 7 new scholars this year.

We are so excited with the growth of our mentoring group and can confidently say we are well equipped to make sure 2021 will be MADALAH’s best year yet!
