Darren Sohia

Darren Sohia has been accommodated with us at Nyirrwa Murrgurlayi since November 2018. Darren was referred to us from Broome Residential College after Darren had heard about us at a school careers exhibit that the EEH team were presenting at. A young man of Papua New Guinean descent and hailing from Derby, Darren excels in academics, as well as being a keen soccer player. After moving in with us at Nyirrwa Murrgurlayi, Darren celebrated his high school graduation, winning the subject prize in Foundation Mathematics.

Darren had already secured a Automotive Apprenticeship to commence in 2019 and had goals in mind that he wanted to work towards. Case Support Worker (CSW) Lauren and Darren identified some goals to work towards together. These included developing a budget plan and gaining his driver’s licence. Within 6 months of living with the support of the EEH Program, Darren obtained his Provisional Driver’s licence and in August 2019 purchased his first car! After working hard and saving money through his budget plan with his CSW, Darren applied for a private rental and moved out in January 2020 to continue his journey independently.
