This artwork is created by MADALAH student Monty Petterson. “This design represents the longest historic stock route in the world, expanding from Halls Creek in the Kimberley region to Wiluna in the Mid-West region, Monty’s country. The route was originally established in 1910 to connect a string of 51 wells located a day’s walk apart for watering stock on route to the markets. The route was used to transport cattle with the journey covering a distance of 1850kms passing through the Gibson, Little Sandy and Great Sandy Deserts. Today Aboriginal people reclaimed native title over majority of the stock route, including Tjurabalan, Ngurrara, Martu and Birriliburu groups. You may travel the route with permit approval to ensure traditional country and heritage sites are protected.” – Monty Petterson *Price is exclusive of GST.
